Last Century of the Ottomans: Velestino 1897

The penultimate Bloody Big Battles scenario for our Last Century of the Ottomans is the small scenario of Velestino. This  was one of the two only victories the Greek army was able to get in the Greek-Ottoman war of 1897. Emir and Doruk came on the Monday after Metcka/Tristenik so we could make up for their absence. They took command of the Ottoman forces while I took command of the Greek. The battle that followed was a quick one. Emir and Doruk were unable to complete the reconnaissance in force that would release their reinforcements. As a result they  were not able to threaten the Greek position. This led to a Greek victory.

Playing Velestino showed me that this is a good training scenario, simply because a lot of the elements of BBB come into play. This includes the rules for roads, steep hills, night intervals, reinforcements etc. However it may be better that the more experienced player play the Ottomans than the Greeks, or that they umpire (not possible in this case). A small change for training reasons would be to release the forces on Turn 6, so that there can be two turns of the full battle. Anyway everybody had fun, but Emir and Doruk still have some learning to do.

Another view. The green felt still needs some ironing.

I also tried a new terrain system. It is not a colorful as my old, but it promises to do a better job at creating seamless features.
